Brissett Joins Cardinals as Backup QB!

Brissett Joins Cardinals as Backup QB!

So, here’s the scoop: Jacoby Brissett, that free agent quarterback, is set to join the Arizona Cardinals as Kyler Murray’s backup. This news dropped earlier today, and it’s got people talking!

Brissett, who’s 32, kicked off the 2024 season as the starting QB for the New England Patriots. However, things took a turn in Week 6 when he got benched for the rookie, Drake Maye, who was the team’s third overall pick. But don’t count him out just yet; in Week 8, he stepped back in when Maye got checked for a concussion and led his team to a thrilling 25-22 victory over the New York Jets. Brissett was super proud of that moment, especially pulling off a winning drive in the last few minutes!

He wrapped up the season completing 95 of 161 passes for 826 yards, along with two touchdowns and just one interception. Not only did he handle the pressure on the field, but he also helped mentor Maye, setting the rookie up for success in the last stretch of the season.

Standing tall at 6-foot-4 and weighing 235 pounds, Brissett started his NFL journey as a third-round pick by the Patriots in 2016. After his time in New England, he played for the Indianapolis Colts from 2017 to 2020, followed by stints with the Miami Dolphins (2021), the Cleveland Browns (2022), and the Washington Commanders (2023), before heading back to the Patriots in 2024.

In 2024, Brissett was itching to get back to being a starter, but it wasn’t smooth sailing. His offensive line was a revolving door, with five different combos, and he battled with a receiving group that didn’t make things easy. During his first five starts, he took a whopping 49 hits, and the Patriots started the season 1-4.

Across his career, Brissett has suited up for 87 regular-season games, starting in 53 of them. He’s got a completion record of 61.1%, throwing for 11,400 yards, 53 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions. Not too shabby, right?
