Ruben Amorim is calling out for more players like Bruno Fernandes at Manchester United after Bruno nailed a free kick in the first half, nearly snagging a late win in the 1-1 draw against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Declan Rice evened the score with a goal in the 74th minute, but it was Fernandes who was the spark for United. He’s been their shining star with seven goals this season, despite the team sitting in a not-so-great 14th spot in the Premier League.
Amorim wants to see more guys stepping up like Bruno does. He appreciates how Bruno is always ready to fight for the win, even if he gets a bit frustrated sometimes. “He’s always there when we need him, whether it’s a goal or an assist,” Amorim said, highlighting his teammate’s flexibility and leadership on the pitch.
He added, “We definitely need more players with Bruno’s attitude, not just his skill but also his willingness to give it all.” Everyone knows Bruno is a crucial part of the squad, and Amorim wants to build that mentality throughout the team
On the other side, Arsenal’s coach, Mikel Arteta, praised Fernandes for his cleverness on that free kick, saying he played the game smartly. Rice chimed in, joking about how the wall was set way back from the kick—making it easier for Bruno to score.
While United almost clinched a victory towards the end, Arsenal dominated possession with 68% of the ball. Amorim still wants a more aggressive approach from his team. “We played well, but we need to push harder and keep the attack going. I want to see us spending more time in the opponent’s half,” he stated.
Next, United has a big Europa League match against Real Sociedad this Thursday at home, hoping to secure a spot in the quarterfinals after a 1-1 draw in the first leg.
